20 sts = 4”;  28 rows = 4” in St st on size 8 needles

18 sts = 2 1/2” in Cable Pat on size 8 needles

TO SAVE TIME, TAKE TIME TO CHECK GAUGE

CABLE PATTERN (Worked over 18 sts)

Row 1 and all WS rows:  Purl.

Rows 2, 4 and 6:  Knit.

Row 8:  K2, k2 tog, yo, sl 5 sts to cn and hold in FRONT, k5, k5 from cn, yo, k2 tog, k2.

Rep these 8 rows for Cable Pat.

BACK

With straight needles, cast on 18(20-20-20-20) sts.

Row 1 (WS):  P0(2-2-2-2), work Row 1 of Cable Pat to end.

Row 2:  Work Row 2 of Cable Pat over 18 sts, k0(2-2-2-2).  Work even in pat as established until Row 7 of Cable Pat has been completed, end on WS, cast on 18(18-19-20-21) sts at end of last row – 36(38-39-40-41) sts.

Add Cable:  Next Row (RS):  K18(18-19-20-21), work Row 8 of Cable Pat over next 18 sts, k0(2-2-2-2).

Following Row:  P0(2-2-2-2), work Row 1 of Cable Pat over 18 sts, p0(0-1-2-3), work Row 1 of Cable Pat to end.  In this manner, continue to add cables every 8th row until there are a total of 6 cables worked across with 0(0-1-2-3) sts between each cable – 108(110-115-120-125) sts.  Work even until Row 7 of Cable Pat has been completed, end on WS.  Cast on 18(20-21-22-23) sts at end of last row – 126(130-136-142-148) sts.

Next Row (RS):  K0(2-2-2-2), k18(18-19-20-21), work in pat as established to end – 7 cables.  Working all sts in pat as established, dec 1 st each side every 1 1/4” twice – 122(126-132-138-144) sts.  Note:  On size X-Small, the dec of 2 sts each side will go into the Cable Pat.  Work even in pat as established until piece measures 13 1/2” from first cast-on edge, end on WS.  Inc 1 st each side every 2 1/4” twice – 126(130-136-142-148) sts.  Work even until piece measures 19” from first cast-on edge, end on WS.

Shape Armholes:  Bind off 4(4-5-6-7) sts at beg of the next 2 rows – 118(122-126-130-134) sts.

Dec Row (RS):  K2, KSP, work to last 4 sts, SSK, k2 – 116(120-124-128-132) sts.  Rep this dec every RS row 13 times more – 90(94-98-102-106) sts.  Work even until armholes measure 7(7 1/2-8-8 1/2-9)”, end on WS.

Shape Shoulders:  Bind off 4(5-4-5-6) sts at beg of the next 2 rows, 4(5-5-5-5) sts at beg of the next 2 rows, then 4(4-5-5-5) sts at beg of the next 4 rows, end on WS.  Bind off remaining 58(58-60-62-64) sts for back neck.

FRONT

With straight needles, cast on 18(20-20-20-20) sts.

Row 1 (WS):  Work Row 1 of Cable Pat to last 0(2-2-2-2) sts, p2.

Row 2:  K0(2-2-2-2), work Row 2 of Cable Pat to end.  Work even in pat as established until row 8 of Cable Pat has been completed, end on RS, cast on 18(18-19-20-21) sts at end of last row – 36(38-39-40-41) sts.

Add Cable:  Next Row (WS):  Work Row 1 of Cable Pat over 18 sts, p0(0-1-2-3), work Row 1 of Cable Pat over 18 sts, p0(2-2-2-2).  In this manner, continue to add cables every 8th row until there are a total of 6 cables worked across with 0(0-1-2-3) sts between each cable – 108(110-115-120-125) sts.  Work even until Row 8 of Cable Pat has been completed, end on RS.  Cast on 18(20-21-22-23) sts at end of last row – 126(130-136-142-148) sts.

Next Row (WS):  P0(2-2-2-2), work Row 1 of Cable Pat over 18 sts, p0(0-1-2-3), work in pat as established to end.  Complete same as back.

SLEEVES

With straight needles, cast on 82(82-88-92-98) sts.

Row 1 (WS):  P5(5-8-10-13), * work Row 1 of Cable Pat over 18 sts, rep from * 3 times more, p to end.

Row 2:  K5(5-8-10-13), * work Row 2 of Cable Pat over 18 sts, rep from * 3 times more, k to end.  Work even in pat as established until sleeve measures 17” from beg, end on WS.

Note:  When decreasing, if there are not enough sts to work an entire Cable Pat, work the extra sts in St st.

Shape Cap:  Bind off 4(4-5-6-7) sts at beg of the next 2 rows – 74(74-78-80-84) sts.

Dec Row (RS):  K2, KSP, work to last 4 sts, SSK, k2 – 72(72-76-78-82) sts.  Rep this dec every RS row 15 times more, end on WS.  Bind off 6(4-4-2-2) sts at beg of the next 2 rows, then 5(4-3-2-1) sts at beg of the next 2 rows, end on WS.  Bind off remaining 20(26-32-40-46) sts.

FINISHING

Sew shoulder seams.  Sew in sleeves.  Sew side and sleeve seams.
