5 Hanks BERROCO SOFTWIST (50 grs), #9420 Nouveau Berry for Scarf

Straight knitting needles, size 8 OR SIZE TO OBTAIN GAUGE

Cable needle (cn)

GAUGE

25 sts = 4”;  28 rows = 4” in Twisted Rib Pats on size 8 needles

18 sts = 2”;  28 rows = 4” in Cable Pat on size 8 needles

TBL

Through back loop

CF8

Sl 5 sts to cn and hold in FRONT, k1 TBL, p1, k1 TBL;  sl 2 p sts from cn back to LH needle and p these 2 sts, then k1 TBL, p1, k1 TBL from cn

 

TWISTED RIB PATTERN 1 (Multiple of 5 sts)

Row 1 (RS):  * K1 TBL, p1, k1 TBL, p2, rep from * across.

Row 2: * K2, p1 TBL, k1, p1 TBL, rep from * across.

Rep these 2 rows for Twisted Rib Pat 1.

 

TWISTED RIB PATTERN 2 (Multiple of 5 sts)
Row 1 (RS):  * P2, k1 TBL, p1, k1 TBL, rep from * across.

Row 2:  * P1 TBL, k1, p1 TBL, k2, rep from * across.

Rep these 2 rows for Twisted Rib Pat 2.

 

CABLE PATTERN (Worked over 18 sts)

Rows 1, 3, 5, 7, 9 and 11 (RS):  (K1 TBL, p1, k1 TBL, p2) 3 times, k1 TBL, p1, k1 TBL.

Row 2 and all WS rows:  (P1 TBL, k1, p1 TBL, k2) 3 times, p1 TBL, k1, p1 TBL.

Rows 13, 17 and 21:  K1 TBL, p1, k1 TBL, p2, CF8, p2, k1 TBL, p1, k1 TBL.

Rows 15 and 19:  CF8, p2, CF8.

Row 22:  Rep Row 2.

Rep these 22 rows for Cable Pat.

 

BACK

With straight needles, cast on 120(130-140-160-170) sts.

Establish Pat Sts:  Row 1 (RS):  K1, work Row 1 of Twist Rib Pat 1 over 50(55-60-70-75) sts, place marker, work Row 1 of Cable Pat over 18 sts, place marker, work Row 1 of Twisted Rib Pat 2 over 50(55-60-70-75) sts, k1.

Row 2:  P1, work Row 2 of Twisted Rib Pat 2 to 1st marker, work Row 2 of Cable Pat to next marker, work Row 2 of Twisted Rib Pat 1 to last st, end p1.  Work even in pats as established until piece measures 16” from beg, end on WS.

Shape Armholes:  Bind off 6(6-6-9-9) sts at beg of the next 2 rows – 108(118-128-142-152) sts.  Dec 1 st each side every RS row 5(6-8-12-14) times – 98(106-112-118-124) sts.  Work even until armholes measure 7(7 1/2-8-8 1/2-9)”, end on WS.

Shape Neck:  Next Row (RS):  Work 24(28-31-34-37) sts, bind off center 50 sts dropping markers, join another hank of yarn and work to end.  Working both sides at once, bind off 3 sts at each neck edge twice, end on WS.  Bind off remaining 18(22-25-28-31) sts each side for shoulders.

 

FRONT

Work same as back until armholes measure approximately 2 3/4”, end on Row 22 of Cable Pat.  Note:  From here, continue to work decs at armholes same as back. AT THE SAME TIME, shape neck as follows:

Shape V-Neck:  Next Row (RS):  Work in pat as established to 2 sts before 1st marker, p2 tog, sl marker, k1 TBL, p1, k1 TBL, p2, k1 TBL, p1, k1 TBL, k1;  join another hank of yarn and k1, k1 TBL, p1, k1 TBL, p2, k1 TBL, p1, k1 TBL, sl marker, p2 tog, work in pat as established to end.

Following Row (WS):  With 1st hank, work in pat as established to 2 sts before 1st marker, k2 tog, sl marker, work in ribbing as established over 9 sts;  with 2nd hank, work in ribbing as established over 9 sts, sl marker, k2 tog, work in pat as established to end.  Working both sides at once with separate hanks of yarn discontinue Cable Pat at neck edges and work these 9 sts each side in ribbing as established.  Continue to work armhole decs and AT THE SAME TIME, dec 1 st before 1st marker and after 2nd marker EVERY row 16(12-10-6-2) times more, then every RS row 4(8-10-14-18) times – 27(31-34-37-40) sts each side.  Work even until armholes measure 7 1/2(8-8 1/2-9-9 1/2)”, end on WS.

Shape Shoulders and Back Neckbands:  Bind off 18(22-25-28-31) sts at beg of the next 2 rows, dropping markers.  Sew shoulder seams.  Work even on 9 sts at each side for back neckbands until bands, when slightly stretched, reach from shoulder seams to center of back neck, end on WS.  Bind off.  Sew bound-off edges of back neckbands tog.  Sew inner edges of bands to back neck edge.

 

SLEEVES

With straight needles, cast on 50 sts.

Row 1 (RS):  K1, * k1 TBL, p1, k1 TBL, p2, rep from * to last 4 sts, end k1 TBL, p1, k1 TBL, k1.

Row 2:  P1, * p1 TBL, k1, p1 TBL, k2, rep from * to last 4 sts, end p1 TBL, k1, p1 TBL, p1.  Rep these 2 rows for Sleeve Pat until sleeve measures 1”, end on WS.  Inc 1 st each end of next row, then 1(3/4-3/4-1/2-1/2)” 15(18-21-24-27) times more, working incs into sleeve pat as sts become available – 82(88-94-100-106) sts.  Work even until sleeve measures 18” from beg, end on WS.

Shape Cap:  Bind off 6(6-6-9-9) sts at beg of the next 2 rows – 70(76-82-82-88) sts.  Dec 1 st each side every RS row 10(10-10-13-13) times, end on WS.  Dec 1 st each side EVERY row 14(14-14-8-8) times, end on WS.  Bind off 3 sts at beg of the next 2 rows.  Bind off remaining 16(22-28-34-40) sts.

 

FINISHING

Sew in sleeves.  Sew side and sleeve seams.

 

SCARF

With straight needles, cast on 60 sts.

Establish Pat Sts:  Row 1 (RS):  K1, work Row 1 of Twisted Rib Pat 1 over 20 sts, place marker, work Row 1 of Cable Pat over 18 sts, place marker, work Row 1 of Twisted Rib Pat 2 over 20 sts, k1.

Row 2:  P1, work Row 2 of Twisted Rib Pat 2 to 1st marker, work Row 2 of Cable Pat to next marker, work Row 2 of Twisted Rib Pat 1 to last st, p1.  Work even in pats as established until piece measures 60”, end on WS.  Bind off.
