29" Length circular knitting needle, size 6 (4.00 mm) OR SIZE TO OBTAIN GAUGE
Cable needle (cn)
7 St markers
3 Yds of ribbon for tie

GAUGE
24 sts = 4";  32 rows = 4" in St st
TO SAVE TIME, TAKE TIME TO CHECK GAUGE

BACK

With circular needle, cast on 126(138-150-162-174-186) sts.  DO NOT join.  Work even in St st for 5 rows, end on RS.  Knit the next row on WS row Garter ridge.

Establish Pat St:  Row 1 (RS):  K8(11-14-17-20-23) sl 1 purlwise,  place marker, * (k1, p1) 6 times, place marker, sl 1 purlwise, k18(20-22-24-26-28), sl 1 purlwise, place marker, rep from * twice more, (k1, p1) 6 times, place marker, sl 1 purlwise, k to end.

Row 2:  P to first marker, * (p1, k1) 6 times, p to next marker, rep from * twice more, (p1, k1) 6 times, p to end.  Work even in pat as established until piece measures 5" from beg, end on WS.

Dec Row (RS):  K to 1 st before first marker, sl 1 purlwise, * dec 1, work in pat as established to 2 sts before next marker, dec 1, sl 1 purlwise, k to 1 st before next marker, sl 1 purlwise, rep from * twice more, dec 1, work in pat as established to 2 sts before next marker, dec 1, sl 1 purlwise, k to end — 118(130-142-154-166-178) sts.  Work even in pat as established until piece measures 10" from beg, end on WS.  Rep Dec Row once more — 110(122-134-146-158-170) sts.  Work even until piece measures 15" from beg, end on WS.  Rep Dec Row once more — 102(114-126-138-150-162) sts.  Work even until piece measures 19" from beg, end on WS and dropping markers on last row.

Pleating Row (RS):  K6(9-12-15-18-21), * sl 3 sts to cn and hold in FRONT, (sliding sts on cn to beg of cn, insert point of RH needle through first st on cn and first st on LH needle and k these 2 sts tog) 3 times, sl 3 sts to cn and hold in BACK, (sliding sts on cn to beg of cn, insert point of RH needle through first st on LH needle and first st on cn and k these 2 sts tog) 3 times, k14(16-18-20-22-24), rep from * 3 times more, ending last rep k6(9-12-15-18-21) instead of k14(16-18-20-22-24) — 78(90-102-114-126-138) sts.  Knit 1 row on WS for Garter Ridge.  Work even in St st for 4", end on RS.  Knit 1 row on WS for Garter Ridge. 

Next Row (RS):  K10(13-16-19-22-25), place marker, * cast on 6 sts using backwards loop method, place marker, k22(24-26-28-30-32), place marker, rep from * twice more, cast on 6 sts using backwards loop method, place marker, k to end — 102(114-126-138-150-162) sts.  Working 6 sts between markers in Seed st as before and remaining sts in St st, work even for 6 rows, end on RS.  K the next row for turning ridge.  Purl 1 row.

Dec Row 1 (RS):  K to first marker, * SSK, k2, k2 tog, k to next marker, rep from * twice more, SSK, k2, k2 tog, k to end — 94(106-118-130-142-154) sts.  Purl 1 row.  Rep Dec Row 1 once more — 86(98-110-122-134-146) sts.  Purl 1 row.

Dec Row 2 (RS):  K to 1 st before first marker, * SSK, dropping marker, k2 tog, dropping marker, k to 1 st before next marker, rep from * twice more, SSK, dropping marker, k2 tog, dropping marker, k to end — 78(90-102-114-126-138) sts.  Purl 1 row.  Fold piece to WS along turning ridge.

Joining Row (RS):  * Insert point of RH needle through first st on LH needle, then under first st in Garter Ridge 1" below turning ridge, k this st and the first st on LH needle together.  Rep from * until all sts on LH needle have been worked — 78(90-102-114-126-138) sts.  Beg with a purl row, work even in St st for 4" forming WS of casing, end on WS.  Bind off.

FRONT

Work same as back until Pleating Row has been completed, end on RS.  Knit 1 row on WS for Garter Ridge.  Work even in St st for 1", end on WS — 78(90-102-114-126-138) sts.

Divide for Front Openings:  Next Row (RS):  K27(33-39-45-51-57), join another hank of yarn and k24, join another hank of yarn and k to end.  Beg with a p row, work even in St st using separate hanks of yarn for the 3 sections until piece measures 2" above Garter Ridge, end on WS.

Joining Row (RS):  K across with first hank, dropping the other 2 hanks.  Complete same as back.

FINISHING

Sew side and casing seams.  Fold casing to WS to Garter Ridge just above pleating row and sew in place forming casing for tie.  Beg and end at front slit,  insert ribbon in casing, then tie at center front.
