FINISHED MEASUREMENTS

Approximately 9” wide x 6” high (Not including handle)

 

MATERIALS

1 Hank BERROCO JASPER (50 grs), #3831

16” length circular knitting needle, size 7 (4.50 mm)

2 Double pointed needles (dpn), size 7 (4.50 mm)

Three 1” buttons

One 3/4” wide x 13” long leather handle with hole on each end from Homestead Heirlooms

1 St marker

Waxed thread and a sewing needle

 

GAUGE

18 sts = 4”;  26 rows = 4” in St st on larger needles

TO SAVE TIME, TAKE TIME TO CHECK GAUGE

 

NOTE

Jasper stripes naturally.  This means that the stripes will not match up at seams

 

BAG

Note:  Bag is worked from the top down.

With circular needle, cast on 100 sts.  Join, being careful not to twist sts.  Mark for beg of rnd and carry marker up.  Work even in k2, p2 ribbing for 2”.

Dec Rnd 1:  * K8, SSK, rep from * around – 90 sts.  Knit 4 rnds.

Dec Rnd 2:  * K7, SSK, rep from * around – 80 sts.  Knit 4 rnds.

Dec Rnd 3:  * K6, SSK, rep from * around – 70 sts.  Knit 4 rnds.

Dec Rnd 4:  * K5, SSK, rep from * around – 60 sts.  Knit 4 rnds, purl 4 rnds, knit 4 rnds.

Dec Rnd 5:  * K4, SSK, rep from * around – 50 sts.  Knit 4 rnds.

Dec Rnd 6:  * K3, SSK, rep from * around – 40 sts.  Knit 4 rnds.

Dec Rnd 7:  * K2, SSK, rep from * around – 30 sts.  Knit 4 rnds.

Dec Rnd 8:  * K1, SSK, rep from * around – 20 sts.

Next Rnd:  * SSK, rep from * around – 10 sts.  Rep the last rnd once more – 5 sts.  Sl 5 sts onto dpn and make I-Cord as follows:

Next Row (RS):  * K5, do not turn work.  Slide sts to beg of needle to work next row from RS.  Rep from * until cord measures 4” long.  Cut yarn, leaving an end. Thread end into yarn needle.  Draw end through 5 sts on needle and pull up tightly.  Fasten off.  Tie cord in knot as in photo.

 

FINISHING

Sew 1 button to knot.  Fold button up to top of ribbing and mark opposite side of top edge for buttonloop.  With sewing needle and waxed thread, make buttonloop on top edge of ribbing by making 2 long straight sts, then working over these sts in buttonhole st.  Sl button through buttonloop.  Place 1 end of handle at each side as in photo, then sew on button, sewing through hole in end of handle.
