BERROCO SOFTWIST (50 grs), 17(18) hanks #9472 Walnut.
Straight knitting needles, size 10 OR SIZE TO OBTAIN GAUGE.
16" length circular knitting needle, size 8.
Cable Needle (cn).
2 Stitch Markers.

GAUGE
23 sts = 4"; 26 rows = 4" in Cable Pat on size 10 needles.
TO SAVE TIME, TAKE TIME TO CHECK GAUGE.

With straight needles, cast on 126(154) sts.
Establish Cable Rib: Preparation Row 1 (RS): Work Cable Rib over 62(76) sts, end with k4; beg with p2, then rep from * of Cable Rib to end. Continue in pat as established until 16 rows have been worked, end on WS. Change to Cable Pat and work even for 15 rows, end on RS. Piece should measure approximately 4 1/2" from beg.
Establish Center Cable Panel: Next Row (WS): Continue Cable Pat over first 30(44) sts, place marker, p2, k4, p4, k6, p2, k2, p4, k4, p2, k4, p4, k6, p2, k2, p4, k4, p2, k2 tog, k2, k2 tog, p2, place marker, continue Cable Pat over last 30(44) sts – 124(152) sts.
Next Row (RS): Continue Cable Pat over 30(44) sts, sl marker, work Row 1 of Center Cable Panel over next 64 sts, sl marker, continue Cable Pat over last 30(44) sts. Continue in pats as established until 82 rows of Center Cable Panel have been worked, end on WS. Piece should measure approximately 17" from beg.
Shape Armholes: Bind off 3 sts at beg of the next 4 rows, 2 sts at beg of the next 2 rows, then 1 st at beg of the next 2 rows. Work on remaining 106(134) sts as follows:
Next Row (RS): P1, CB4, continue in pasts as established to last 5 sts, CF4, p1. Continue in pats as established, working CB4 at beg of rows and CF4 at end of rows every 4th row until 15 rows have been worked above last armhole bind-off, end on Row 9 of Center Cable Panel.
Next Inc Row (WS): K1, p4, continue Cable Pat over next 16(30) sts, p2, (k4, p4) twice, k2, p4, k4, p2, k4, p4, (k2, p2) twice, (k2, p4) twice, inc 1 st in next st, k2, inc 1 st in next st, p2, continue Cable Pat over next 16(30) sts, p4, k1 – 108(136) sts. Remove markers.
Next Row (RS): P1, CB4, continue Cable Pat to last 5 sts, CF4, p1. Continue in pats as established until armholes measure 8(8 1/2)", end on WS.
Shape Shoulders and Neck: Bind off 7(9) sts at beg of the next 2 rows.
Next Row (RS): Bind off 7(10) sts, work until there are 27(36) sts on RH needle, sl center 26 sts onto holder for back neck, join another hank of yarn and work to end. Working both sides at once, bind off 7(10) sts at beg of the next 7 rows. AT THE SAME TIME, bind off 3 sts at each neck edge twice.

FRONT
Work same as for back until 15 rows have been worked above Next Inc Row, end on RS. Armholes should measure approximately 7 1/2(8)".
Shape Neck and Shoulders: Next Row (WS): Work 47(61) sts, sl center 14 sts onto holder for front neck, join another hank of yarn and work to end. Working both sides at once, bind off 4 sts at each neck edge once, 2 sts twice, then 1 st 4 times. AT THE SAME TIME, when armholes measure 8(8 1/2)", shape shoulders same as for back.

SLEEVES
With straight needles, cast on 40 sts.
Establish Cable Rib: Preparation Row 1 (RS): K2, work Row 1 of Cable Rib over next 36 sts, k2. Continue in pat as established, inc 1 st each side (working incs into pat as sts become available) every other RS row 21(23) times. AT THE SAME TIME, when 28 rows have been completed, continue in Cable Pat, (keeping CB4 sts in same place as Cable Rib and working 6-st horseshoe cable over the CB2, p2, k2 sts). After all incs have been worked, continue on 82(86) sts until piece measures 18" from beg, end on WS.
Shape Cap: Bind off 2 sts at beg of the next 12 rows. Bind off remaining 58(62) sts.

FINISHING
Steam pieces lightly. Sew shoulder seams.
Neckband: With RS facing, using circular needle, work 26 sts from back neck holder, pick up and k34 sts along neck to center front, work 14 sts from front neck holder, pick up and k34 sts along remaining neck edge – 108 sts. Mark for beg of rnd and carry marker up.
Rnd 1: (K2, p2) twice, (k4, p2) twice, (k2, p2) twice, (k4, p2) twice, (k2, p2) twice, k4, (p2, k2) twice, (p2, k4) twice, (p2, k2) twice, p2, k4, (p2, k2) twice, (p2, k4) twice, p2.
Rnd 2: K2, p2, CB2, p2, (CB4, p2) twice, k2, p2, CB2, p2, (CB4, p2) twice, k2, p2, CB2, p2, CB4, p2, k2, p2, CB2, (p2, CB4) twice, p2, k2, p2, CB2, p2, CB4, p2, k2, p2, CB2, (p2, CB4) twice, p2.
Rnd 3: K the k sts and p the p sts as they face you.
Rnd 4: K the k sts, p the p sts and work CB2 sts same as Rnd 2. Rep Rnds 1-4 until neckband measures 6". Bind off. Sew in sleeves. Sew side and sleeve seams.
