When a total of 11 needle loops have been completed, work even in St st for 5”, end on WS. Bind off. FINISHING Tear plastic grocery bags in half and stuff each needle loop with one half bag. This holds them open while felting. Felt needle hanger in washing machine for a short time using hot water and soap. Remove from washer and rinse well. Remove grocery bags and continue to felt, checking often. When piece reaches desired size, remove from washer and allow to air dry, shaping by hand. When dry, fold each end to WS 1” and sew in place. For a handle, we inserted a spare needle through the loop formed by the foldback at top and tied a piece of twisted raffia to each end of needle to hang. |
