SIZES

Directions are for women’s size X-Small. Changes for sizes Small, Medium, Large, 1X, 2X and 3X are in parentheses.

 

FINISHED MEASUREMENTS

Bust – 33 1/2(35-37-38 1/2-43-46 1/2-51)”.

Length – 17 1/2(18-18 1/2-19-19 1/2-19 1/2-20)”.

 

MATERIALS

BERROCO JEWEL FX (25 grs), 10(11-12-13-15-16-18) balls #6914 Bali Hai (MC)

BERROCO YOGA (50 grs), 2 hanks #6401 Shakti (CC)

Straight knitting needles, sizes 7 and 9, OR SIZE TO OBTAIN GAUGE.

16” Length circular knitting needle, size 7.

Crochet hook, size 4.00 mm (F).

3 St markers (1 a different color).

2 St holders.

 

GAUGE

18 sts = 4”;  23 rows = 4” in St st with MC on size 9 needles.

20 sts = 4”;  25 rows = 4” in k1, p1 ribbing with MC on size 7 needles.

TO SAVE TIME, TAKE TIME TO CHECK GAUGE.

 

BACK

With smaller straight needles, using MC, cast on 75(79-87-97-107-117-127) sts.

Row 1 (RS): K1, * p1, k1, rep from * across.

Row 2:  P1, * k1, p1, rep from * across.  Rep these 2 rows until piece measures 6 1/2” from beg, end on RS.  Change to larger straight needles and purl the next row, dec 0(0-4-10-10-12-12) sts evenly spaced across – 75(79-83-87-97-105-115) sts. Beg with a knit row, work even in St st until piece measures 11” from beg, end on WS.

Shape Armholes:  Bind off 5(5-5-5-6-7-9) sts at beg of the next 2 rows – 65(69-73-77-85-91-97) sts.

Dec Row 1 (RS):K1, k2tog, k to last 3 sts, SSK, k1 – 63(67-71-75-83-89-95) sts.

Dec Row 2:P1, p2tog, p to last 3 sts, p2tog, p1 – 61(65-69-73-81-87-93) sts.Rep these 2 rows once more – 57(61-65-69-77-83-89) sts.  Discontinue Dec Row 2 and rep Dec Row 1 every RS row 1(1-1-1-2-4-4) times more – 55(59-63-67-73-75-81) sts. Work even until armholes measure 5 1/2(6-6 1/2-7-7 1/2-7 1/2-8)”, end on WS.

Shape Neck:Next Row (RS): K11(13-15-17-20-21-24), sl center 33 sts onto holder for back neck, join another ball of MC and k11(13-15-17-20-21-24). Working both sides at once, bind off 2 sts at each neck edge twice. Bind off 7(9-11-13-16-17-20) sts each side for shoulders.

 

FRONT

Work same as for back until armholes measure approximately  1/2(1-1 1/2-2-2 1/2-2 1/2-3)”, and there are 61(61-63-67-73-75-81) sts on needle, end on WS.

Shape Neck:Next Row (RS):K30(30-31-33-36-37-40), sl center st onto holder for front neck, join another ball of MC and k30(30-31-33-36-37-40). Working both sides at once, continue to work armhole decs same as for back and AT THE SAME TIME, dec 1 st at each neck edge every row 10 times, then every RS row 10 times. When all decs have been completed, work even on 7(9-11-13-16-17-20) sts each side until armholes measure 6 1/2(7-7 1/2-8-8 1/2-8 1/2-9)”, end on WS. Bind off all sts for shoulders.

 

SLEEVES

With smaller straight needles, using MC, cast on 35(35-41-41-41-45-45) sts. Purl 1 WS row.  Beg with Row 1, work in ribbing same as for back for 4”, end on WS. Change to larger straight needles and St st. Work even for 4 rows, end on WS.

Inc Row (RS): K1, M1k, k to last st, M1k, k1 – 37(37-43-43-43-47-47) sts. Rep this inc every RS row 5(9-7-13-17-13-17) times more, then every other RS row 6(4-5-2-0-2-0) times – 59(63-67-73-77-77-81) sts. Work even until sleeve measures 12” from beg, end on WS.

Shape Cap: Bind off 5(5-5-5-6-7-9) sts at beg of the next 2 rows, - 49(53-57-63-65-63-63) sts.  Dec 1 st at each side every RS row 12(11-9-8-7-8-8) times, then every row 0(2-6-8-10-8-8) times, end on WS.  Bind off 3 sts at beg of the next 4 rows. Bind off remaining 13(15-15-19-19-19-19) sts.

 

FINISHING

Steam pieces with hot steam iron and a pressing cloth. Sew shoulder seams. Sew in sleeves. Sew side and sleeve seams.

Neckband: With RS facing, using circular needle and MC, beg at left shoulder, pick up and k38 sts along left front neck edge, place marker, k1 from front holder, place marker,  pick up and k38 sts along right front neck edge and 5 sts along back neck shaping edge, k33 from back holder, pick up and k4 sts along back neck shaping edge – 119 sts. Mark with different colored marker for beg of rnd and carry all markers up.

Dec Rnd: Work in k1, p1 ribbing to 2 sts before marker, SSK, sl marker, k1, sl marker, k2 tog, work in k1, p1 ribbing to end. Rep this rnd twice more.  Bind off all sts in ribbing.

Fringe: Cut one 19” long strand of CC. Fold strand in half. With crochet hook, draw center of strand through st at base of front neckband, approximately 3/4” below left shoulder seam, forming a lp. Pull ends of fringe through this lp. In this manner, make fringe every  1/2” along base of front neckband, ending approximately  3/4” below right shoulder seam. Trim fringe to even off if necessary.

Note:For speedier cutting, wrap yarn multiple times around a piece of cardboard that is the desired finished length of the fringe. Cut the lower edge to free wrapped strands.
