FINISHED MEASUREMENTS
Bust – 32(36-40-44-48)”.
Length –17 1/2(18-18 1/2-19-19 1/2)” Not including crocheted edging.

 

MATERIALS
BERROCO FOLIAGE (50 grs),  5(5-6-6-7) balls #5980 Asters.
Straight knitting needles, size 11 OR SIZE TO OBTAIN
GAUGE.
29” length circular knitting needle, size 10 1/2.
Crochet hook, size 7.00 mm (K).
3 St markers.
7(7-7-9-9) Safety pins to use as markers.

 

GAUGE
13 sts = 4”;  18 rows = 4” in St st on size 11 needles.
TO SAVE TIME, TAKE TIME TO CHECK GAUGE.

 

NOTE
This garment is knit all in one piece, starting at the lower edge of Back and ending at the lower edge of Front.  There are no shoulder seams.

 

BACK
With straight needles, cast on 52(60-66-72-80) sts.  Work even in St st until piece measures 10” from beg, end on WS.
Shape Armholes:  Bind off 4 sts at beg of the next 2 rows, 3(3-3-3-4) sts at beg of the next 2 rows, 2(2-2-3-3) sts at beg of the next 2 rows, 0(2-2-2-2) sts at beg of the next 2 rows, 0(0-0-0-2) sts at beg of the next 2 rows, then dec 1 st at each armhole edge every RS row 1(1-2-2-2) times – 32(36-40-44-46) sts.  Work even until armholes measure 7 1/2(8-8 1/2-9-9 1/2)”, end on WS.  Mark beg and end of last row for shoulders.
Shape Back Neck:  K3(5-7-9-10), join another ball of yarn and bind off center 26 sts, k3(5-7-9-10).

 

FRONT
Working both sides at once, work even in St st until armholes measure 5 3/4(5 3/4-6-6 1/2-6 1/2)” above shoulder markers, end on WS.
Shape Armholes:  Inc 1 st at each armhole edge every RS row 1(1-2-2-2) times, then cast on 0(0-0-0-2) sts at beg of the next 2
rows, 0(2-2-2-2) sts at beg of the next 2 rows, 2(2-2-3-3) sts at beg of the next 2 rows, 3(3-3-3-4) sts at beg of the next 2 rows, then 4 sts at beg of the next 2 rows – 13(17-20-23-27) sts each side.  Work even until piece measures 14” above shoulder markers, end on WS.
Shape Front Neck Edge:  Next Row (RS):  K13(17-20-23-27) sts, cast on 26 sts, fasten off 2nd ball of yarn and k13(17-20-23-27) sts with 1st ball – 52(60-66-72-80) sts.  Work even until piece measures 17 1/2 (18-18 1/2-19-19 1/2)” above shoulder markers, end on WS.  Bind off all sts.

 

FINISHING
Neckband:
  With RS facing, using circular needle, beg at center back neck, pick up and k13 sts across back neck edge, 54 sts along left front neck edge, 26 sts across front neck edge, 54 sts along right front neck edge, then 13 sts across remaining back neck edge – 160 sts.  Mark for beg of rnd and carry marker up.
Rnd 1:  P1, (k2, p2) 15 times, k2, p1, k2 tog, place marker, SSK, p1, (k2, p2) 5 times, k2, p1, k2 tog, place marker, SSK, p1, k2, (p2, k2) 15 times, p1 – 156 sts.  Work 1 rnd even.  Working in ribbing as established, continue in this manner to dec 1 st before and after marker at each front corner of neck every other rnd 12 times more – 108 sts.  At this point, only  2 sts should remain between the 2 markers at the front neck.  Bind off all sts in ribbing.
Armhole Edging:  With RS facing, using crochet hook, work in sc along entire armhole edge, turn.
Row 2:  Ch 1, work 1 sc in 1st sc, skip 1 sc, 3 dc’s in next sc, skip 1 sc, * 1 sc in next sc, skip 1 sc, 3 dc’s in next sc, skip next sc, rep from * across, end 1 sc in last sc.  Fasten off.  Repeat for 2nd armhole.
Lower Front Edging:  With RS facing, using crochet hook, work in sc along entire lower front edge, turn.Row 2:  Ch 1, work 1 sc in 1st sc, skip 1 sc, 3 dc’s in next sc, skip 1 sc, * 1 sc in next sc, skip 1 sc, 3 dc’s in next sc, skip next sc, rep from * across, end 1 sc in last sc, turn.  Place 7(7-7-9-9) safety pin markers evenly spaced across the last row with 1 pin in 1st and last st and remaining 5(5-5-7-7) pins evenly spaced between.
Row 3:  * Ch 10(10-11-10-11), sl st at next marker, (ch 20, sl st at same marker) 5 times (5 long loops made), ch 10(10-11-10-11), sl st at next marker, rep from * 2(2-2-3-3) times more – 3(3-3-4-4) groups of 5 long loops.  Turn.
Row 4:  * (Ch 4, sc in long loop) 5 times, ch 4, sc in next sc, rep from * across, end sc in base of ch-10(10-11-10-11).  Turn.
Row 5:  Ch 3, work 2 dc’s in 1st sc, * sc in ch-4 sp, 3 dc’s in next sc, rep from * across, end 3 dc’s in base of ch-4.  Keep last loop on hook.
Tassel:  * Ch 30.  Work 1 sc in 2nd ch from hook and in each ch across.  Join with a sl st in last dc of Row 5.  Rep from * twice more.  Fasten off.
Lower Back Edging:  Work same as for Lower Front Edging, omitting Tassel.   Steam piece with hot steam iron and a pressing cloth.  Sew side seams.
