MATERIALS
BERROCO ICON (50 grs), 5(5-6-6-7) balls #4003 Gold/Black.
Straight knitting needles, size 13 OR SIZE TO OBTAIN
GAUGE.
Crochet hook, size 6.00 mm (J).
GAUGE
13 sts = 4”; 16 rows = 4” in St st on size 13 needles.
TO SAVE TIME, TAKE TIME TO CHECK GAUGE.
BACK
With straight needles, cast on 53(53-57-63) sts.
Row 1 (RS): K1, * p1, k1, rep from * across.
Row 2: P1, * k1, p1, rep from * across. Work even in St st until piece measures 4” from beg, end on WS.
Inc Row (RS): K1, M1k, k to last st, M1k, k1 – 55(55-59-65) sts. Rep this inc row every 3½(2½-1¾-1¾)” 2(3-4-4) times more – 59(61-67-73) sts. Work even until piece measures 12” from beg, end on WS.
Shape Armholes: Bind off 3(4-6-8) sts at beg of the next 2 rows – 53(53-55-57) sts.
Row 1 (RS): K1, SSK, k to last 3 sts, k2 tog, k1 – 51(51-53-55) sts.
Row 2: K1, p to last st, k1.
Row 3: Rep Row 1 – 49(49-51-53) sts.
Row 4: K1, p17(17-18-19), k13, p17(17-18-19), k1.
Shape Neck: Next Row (RS): K1, SSK, k15(15-16-17), join another ball of yarn and bind off center 13 sts, k to last 3 sts, k2 tog, k1 – 17(17-18-19) sts each side. Working both sides at once, continue to dec at each armhole in same manner as before every RS row 5(5-6-7) times more and AT THE SAME TIME, dec 1 st at each neck edge EVERY row 11 times. Fasten off last st each side.
FRONT
Work same as for Back.
FINISHING Sew side seams.
Left Shoulder Strap: With RS facing, using crochet hook and 2 strands of yarn held tog, join yarn in last st fastened off on left side of Front and make a chain the desired length of strap. Join to last st fastened off on left side of Back and fasten off.
Right Shoulder Strap: Work same as for Left Shoulder Strap.

Shawl: With straight needles, using A, cast on 3 sts. Following Stripe Sequence, work 1 row even, then inc 1 st at beg of next row, then at beg of every row until stripe sequence has been completed.
Note: Work incs by knitting into front, then back of 1st st. You should have 156 sts on needle. Bind off all sts with A.
Fringe: Cut four 9” long strands of A. Put strands tog and fold in half. With crochet hook, draw center of strands through center st of cast-on edge forming a lp. Pull ends of fringe through this lp. In this manner, make fringe ¼” apart along each side edge of shawl. Trim fringe to even off if necessary.
Note: For speedier cutting, wrap yarn multiple times around a piece of cardboard that is the desired finished length of the fringe. Cut the lower edge to free wrapped strands.
