FINISHED MEASUREMENTS
Approximately 21” around x 7” high at center point

MATERIALS
2 Hanks BERROCO JASPER (50 grs), #3851 Sparkler
Straight knitting needles, size 9 (5.50 mm) OR SIZE TO OBTAIN GAUGE
2 St markers

GAUGE
18 sts = 4”; 22 rows = 4” in St st
TO SAVE TIME, TAKE TIME TO CHECK GAUGE

NOTE
Hat is made in one piece from side to side

HAT

With straight needles, cast on 59 sts.

Row 1 (RS):  K29, place marker, k1, place marker, k to end.   Work even in Garter St until piece measures 2¼” from beg.

Inc Row (RS):  K to first marker, M1k, sl marker, k1, sl marker, M1k, k to end – 61 sts.

Next Row:  K5, p to last 5 sts, k to end.  Rep these 2 rows 5 times more – 71 sts.  Keeping 5 sts at each side in Garter St and remaining sts in St st, work even until piece measures 6¼” from beg, end on WS.

Dec Row (RS):  K to 2 sts before first marker, k2 tog, sl marker, k1, sl marker, SSK, k to end.

Next Row:  K5, p to last 5 sts, end k5.  Rep these 2 rows 5 times more, end on WS.  Work even in Garter St until piece measures 10½” from beg, end on WS.  Bind off.

FINISHING

Fold hat in half lengthwise.  Sew ends together.  Make two 3” long tassels and sew one to each side of hat at folded point.
