Directions are for children’s size 2.  Changes for sizes 4 and 6 are in parentheses.

 

FINISHED MEASUREMENTS

Chest – 22(25-28)”.

Length – 21(23-25)”.

 

MATERIALS

BERROCO TUTU (50 grs), 6(6-7) balls #5796 Swan Lake (A).

BERROCO COTTON TWIST (50 grs), 4(4-5) hanks #8358 Horizon (B).

Straight knitting needles, sizes 8 and 17 OR SIZE TO OBTAIN GAUGE.

16” Length circular knitting needle, size 8.

1 St marker.

 

GAUGE

10 sts = 4”;  14 rows = 4” in St st with A on size 17 needles.

19 sts = 4”;  26 rows = 4” in St st with B on size 8 needles.

TO SAVE TIME, TAKE TIME TO CHECK GAUGE.

 

BACK

Skirt:  With larger needles, using A, cast on 63(67-71) sts.  Work even in St st for 3(4-5)”, end on WS.  K the next row, dec 12 sts evenly spaced across – 51(55-59) sts.  Work even until piece measures 6(7-8)” from beg, end on WS.  K the next row, dec 12 sts evenly spaced across – 39(43-47) sts.  Work even until piece measures 9(10-11)” from beg, end on WS.  K the next row, dec 12 sts evenly spaced across – 27(31-35) sts.  Work even until piece measures 10(11-12)” from beg, end on RS.

Bodice:  Change to smaller needles and B.  Purl the next row, inc 25(28-32) sts evenly spaced across – 52(59-67) sts.  Work even in St st until bodice measures 6(6 1/2-7)”, end on WS.

Shape Armholes:  Bind off 5(6-7) sts at beg of the next 2 rows – 42(47-53) sts.  Dec 1 st each side every RS row 7(8-9) times – 28(31-35) sts.  Work even until armholes measure 3(3 1/2-4)”, end on WS.

Shape Neck:  Next Row (RS):  K5(6-7), join another hank of B and bind off center 18(19-21) sts for back neck, k to end.  Working both sides at once, work even until armholes measure 5(5 1/2-6)”, end on WS.  Bind off all sts each side for shoulders.

 

FRONT

Work same as for back.

 

FINISHING

Steam bodice section of back and front.  Sew shoulder seams.

Neck Edging:   With RS facing, using circular needle and B, beg at center back neck, pick up and k9(10-11) sts across half of back neck edge, 19 sts along inner edge of left shoulder strap, 18(19-21) sts across front neck edge, 19 sts along inner edge of right shoulder strap, then 9(9-10) sts across remaining half of back neck edge – 74(76-80) sts.  Bind off all sts knitwise.

Armhole Edging: With RS facing, using smaller straight needles and B, pick up and k49(53-57) sts along entire armhole edge.  Bind off all sts purlwise.  Sew side and armhole edging seams.
