SIZE

To fit an 18” tall doll.

 

MATERIALS
BERROCO VIBE (50 grs), 2 balls #4503 Unforgettable (A) and 1 ball #4509 Green Door (B)
BERROCO COTTON TWIST (50 grs), 1 hank #8390 Pitch Black (C)
Straight knitting needles, size 15 OR SIZE TO OBTAIN GAUGE
Crochet hook, size 5.00 mm (H)
Small piece of black felt for pumpkin face
Fabric Glue

 

GAUGE
11 sts = 4”:  12 rows = 4” in St st with A or B on size 15 needles.
TO SAVE TIME, TAKE TIME TO CHECK GAUGE.

 

PUMPKIN COSTUME

 

FRONT
With straight needles, using A, cast on 6 sts.  Purl 1 row.  Working in St st, cast on 4 sts at beg of the next 4 rows – 22 sts.  K the next row, inc 6 sts evenly spaced across – 28 sts.  Work even until piece measures 6” from beg, end on WS.  K the next row, dec 9 sts evenly spaced across – 19 sts.  Purl 1 row.
Shape Armholes:  Bind off 1 st at beg of the next 2 rows – 17 sts.  Dec 1 st at each armhole edge every RS row twice – 13 sts.  Work even until armholes measure 2”, end on WS.
Shape Neck and Shoulders:  Next Row (RS):  K3, join another ball of A and bind off center 7 sts, k to end.  Working both sides at once, purl 1 row. Bind off 3 sts each side for shoulders.

 

BACK
Work same as for front until piece measures 5” from beg, end on WS – 28 sts.
Next Row (RS):  K14, join another ball of A and k14.  Working both sides at once, work even until piece measures 6” from beg, end on WS.  K the next row, dec 5 sts evenly spaced across each side – 9 sts each side.  Purl 1 row.
Shape Armholes:  Still working both sides at once, bind off 1 st at beg of the next 2 rows – 8 sts each side.  Dec 1 st at each armhole edge every RS row twice – 6 sts each side.  Work even until armholes measure 2”, end on WS.
Shape Neck and Shoulders:  Bind off 3 sts at each neck edge once.  Bind off remaining 3 sts each side for shoulders.

 

FINISHING
With RS facing, using crochet hook and C, beg at lower edge of front, work 5 rows of chain st up front working to different lengths and alternating spacing between sts to indicate lines on a pumpkin (See photo).  Repeat on back.  Sew shoulder seams.  Sew side seams.  With RS facing, using crochet hook and A, work 1 row sc around each armhole and leghole, gathering slightly to fit arms and legs of doll.
Back Edging:  With RS facing, using crochet hook and C, work in sc along both edges of back slit.
Ties (Make 4):  Using crochet hook, join a double strand of C at left side of back neck edge and make a chain 5” long.  Fasten off.  Repeat at right side of back neck edge.  Make 2 more chains half way down each side of back slit.  Knot the end of each tie.
Collar:  With RS facing, using crochet hook and B, beg at left back neck edge, work 19 sc’s around entire neck edge.
Row 2:  Ch 1, turn, sc in each sc, inc 10 sc’s evenly spaced across – 29 sc’s.
Row 3:  Ch 1, turn, sc in 1st sc, * (dc, ch 1, tr, ch 1, sl st in top of tr, ch 1, dc) all on next sc, skip 1 sc, sc in next sc, rep from * around.  Fasten off. – 7 leaves.

 

PANTSLEFT LEG
With straight needles, using B, cast on 14 sts.  Work even in St st for 2 1/2”, end on WS.
Inc Row (RS):  K1, M1k, k to last st, M1k, k1 – 16 sts.  Rep this inc every 2 1/2” once more – 18 sts.  Work even until piece measures 6” from beg, end on WS.  Rep Inc Row once more – 20 sts.  Work even until piece measures 6 1/2”, end on WS.  Mark beg and end of last row for beg of crotch.
Shape Crotch:  Bind off 1 st at beg of the next 4 rows – 16 sts.  Work even until piece measures 2” above markers, end on WS.  Dec 1 st each side of next row – 14 sts.  Work even until piece measures 10” from beg, end on WS.  Work in k1, p1 ribbing for 2 rows.  Bind off all sts.

 

RIGHT LEG
Work same as for left leg.

 

FINISHING
Sew crotch seams tog to markers.  Fold each leg in half and sew inseams.

Drawstring:  Using crochet hook and a double strand of C, make a chain long enough to fit around doll’s waist plus 14” extra for ties.  Fasten off.  Beg at center front, weave drawstring in and out through ribbing at top of pants.  Knot ends of drawstring.

 

HAT
With straight needles, using A, cast on 30 sts.  Work in k1, p1 ribbing for 2 rows.  K the next row, inc 14 sts evenly spaced across – 44 sts.  Beg with a p row, work even in St st until piece measures 3 1/2” from beg, end on WS.
Dec Row 1 (RS):  * K2 tog, rep from * across – 22 sts.
Dec Row 2 (WS):  * P2 tog, rep from * across – 11 sts.  Cut yarn leaving a 10” long end for sewing.  Draw end through all sts on needle and pull up tightly.  Secure, then sew back seam.
Leaves and Stem:  With crochet hook, using B, ch 5.  Join with a sl st to form a ring.
Row 1: Ch 1, working into ring, sc, * dc, ch 1, tr, ch 1, sl st in top of tr, ch 1, dc, sc, rep from * 4 times more, join with a sl st in 1st sc, leaving last loop on hook – 5 leaves.  Ch 6, sc in 2nd ch from hook and in each ch.  Fasten off, leaving an end for sewing.  This forms stem.  Push stem through center of ring to RS and sew to other side of ring.  Sew leaves and stem to top of hat.

 

PUMPKIN BAG
With straight needles and A, cast on 20 sts.  Purl 1 row.  K the next row, inc 4 sts evenly spaced across – 24 sts.  Beg with a p row, work even in St st until piece measures 3 1/2” from beg, end on WS.
Dec Row 1 (RS):  * K2 tog, rep from * across – 12 sts.
Dec Row 2 (WS):  * P2 tog, rep from * across – 6 sts.  Cut yarn leaving a 10” long end for sewing.  Draw end through all sts on needle and pull up tightly.  Secure, then sew back seam.
Edging:  With RS facing, using crochet hook and C, beg at back seam, work in sc around top of pumpkin, join with a sl st in 1st sc.  Fasten off.
Handle:  With RS facing, using crochet hook, join a double strand of C to left side of pumpkin edging.  Make a chain 3” long and join with a sl st to right side of pumpkin edging.  Fasten off.  Cut 3 small triangles and a pumpkin mouth out of felt and glue to front of pumpkin for face (See photo).
