SIZE
Approximately 11” tall.

 

MATERIALS
BERROCO AIR (50 grs), 1 ball #3145 Karma.
Straight knitting needles, size 11 OR SIZE TO OBTAIN GAUGE.
Black embroidery floss.
Tapestry needle.
1 St holder.
Small amount of polyfil for stuffing.

 

GAUGE
13 sts = 4”;  19 rows = 4” in St st.
TO SAVE TIME, TAKE TIME TO CHECK GAUGE.

 

STITCH GLOSSARY
Inc 1
K in front and back of next st.

 

WTS
Sl 1, bring yarn to RS of work, return slipped st back to LH needle, turn work, bring yarn to WS of work, sl 1 purlwise.

 

BACK
1st Leg
With straight needles, cast on 4 sts.
Row 1 (RS): Inc 1, k2, inc 1 – 6 sts.
Row 2 and all WS rows:  Purl.
Row 3: K1, (Inc 1) 4 times, k1 – 10 sts.
Row 5: K8, WTS, p5, WTS, k7 – 10 sts.

Note:  We made an optional eyelet in the 1st ear of our bear.  This is so that the bear can be tied through the ear onto a high chair or car seat.  (Please never leave a child unattended with anything tied onto a string to prevent choking.)  If you do not wish to make the eyelet, work both ears same as 2nd ear.

Ears:  Work same as for back ears, making optional eyelet in 2nd ear instead of 1st ear.

 

FINISHING
Sew back and front of bear together, leaving ears and bound-off sts at top of head open for stuffing.  Stuff legs and arms first, making them quite firm.  Stuff body next, being sure to stuff lightly so that bear is huggable.  Stuff muzzle next, then head.  This makes the muzzle stand out.  Sew bound-off sts and ears tog.  Embroider the face with embroidery floss as in photo.

Optional:  If desired, you may work running sts around the muzzle with matching yarn and pull up slightly for more definition.  You may also sew across the base of ears and around curve of ear to give the ear more shape.
