K2 tog, leaving st on LH needle, k first st again.
Skip 1 st, k next st from behind first st through back loop, k skipped st.

Row 2: P2, * p2 tog, p1, rep from * across, end p1.

With larger needles, cast on 85(93-103-111-119) sts. Work even in Pat St until piece measures 21-1/2(22-22-1/2-23-23-1/2)" from beg, end on RS.
Note: To bind off on WS rows, work each p2 tog first, then bind st off. This will eliminate extra sts created on previous RS row.
Shape Neck: Work until there are 30(34-38-42-45) sts on RH needle, join another hank of yarn and bind off center 25(25-27-27-29) sts, work to end. Working both sides at once, work 1 row even. Dec 1 st at each neck edge on next row, end on WS. Bind off 29(33-37-41-44) sts each side for shoulders.
With larger needles, cast on 39(43-49-53-57) sts. Work even in Pat St until piece measures 19(19-1/2-20-20-1/2-21)" from beg, end on RS.
Shape Neck: Bind off 2(2-3-3-4) sts at beg of the next row, then bind off 2(2-3-3-3) sts at beg of the next WS row. Dec 1 st at neck edge every RS row 6 times 29(33-37-41-44) sts. Work even until piece measures same length as back, end on WS. Bind off all sts for shoulder.
Work to correspond to left front, reversing shaping. Sew shoulder seams. Measure down 7(7-1/2-8-8-1/2-9)" from shoulder seams on back and fronts and mark for armholes.
With RS facing, using larger needles, pick up and k59(63-67-73-77) sts between markers. Purl 1 row. Work even in Pat St for 1", end on WS. Dec 1 st each side of next row, then every 10th row 7 times more 43(47-51-57-61) sts. Work even in pat as established until sleeve measures 16" from beg, end on WS. Bind off all sts.
Sew side and sleeve seams.
Left Frontband: With smaller needles, cast on 13 sts.
Row 1 (RS): K2, (p1, k1) 5 times, k1.
Row 2: K the k sts and p the p sts as they face you. Rep these 2 rows until band, when slightly stretched, measures same as left front edge, end on RS. Sl sts to holder. Sew frontband to left front edge. Mark for 5 buttons, the first 1" up from lower edge and the last 1" below neck edge.
Right Frontband: Work same as for left frontband, making 5 vertical buttonholes opposite markers as follows: Work until 2 rows before first marker, rib 6 sts, join another hank of yarn and rib to end. Work both sides separately for 3 more rows, end on WS. On next row, work all sts with 1st strand, dropping 2nd strand of yarn. When piece measures same as for left frontband, end on RS. Sl sts to holder. DO NOT break yarn. Sew frontband to right front edge.
Neck Border: With RS facing, sl 13 sts from right holder to smaller needle. Using yarn from frontband, pick up and k20(20-21-21-22) sts along right front neck edge, 30(30-32-32-34) sts across back neck edge, 20(20-21-21-22) sts along left front neck edge, then work 13 sts from left holder in ribing as established 96(96-100-100-104) sts. Bind off all sts knitwise.
