BERROCO METALLIC FX (25 grs), 21(22-23-24-25) hanks #1002 Silver for Dress, 13(14-15-16-17) hanks for Top. Straight knitting needles sizes 5 and 6 OR SIZE TO OBTAIN GAUGE
Safety pins (or st holders)
Cable needle (cn)

GAUGE
30 sts and 36 rows = 4” in rib pat, slightly stretched, using size 6 needles.
TO SAVE TIME, TAKE TIME TO CHECK GAUGE.

NOTE
Instructions are written both for the dress, as pictured, and for a shaped top.

DRESS

BACK

With larger needles, cast on 160 (164, 168, 172, 176) sts.
Row 1 (RS): K1 (selvage st), *k2, p2; rep from * , end k2, k1 (selvage st). Continue in k2, p2 rib pat as established for 6”. Dec 1 st each side of next row, inside of selvage sts, and rep dec every 22nd row (or 21/2”) 3 times more - 152 (156, 160, 164, 168) sts. Work even until piece measures 141/2” from beg.
Beg Waist Shaping
*Dec Row 1 (RS): Work 31 (31, 35, 35, 39) sts, k3tog, work to last 34 (34, 38, 38, 42) sts, SK2P (sl 1, k2tog, psso), work 31 (31, 35, 35, 39) sts. Work 1 row even.
Dec Row 3 (RS): Work 29 (29, 33, 33, 37) sts, sl 2 sts to cn and hold to front and parallel with LH needle, [k1 st tog from LH needle with 1 st from cn] twice, work to last 33 (33, 37, 37, 41) sts, sl 2 sts to cn and hold to back, [k1 st tog from LH needle with 1 st from cn] twice, work rib to end. Work 11 rows even*. Rep between *’s (14 rows) 4 times more. Rep dec rows 1-3 once - 104 (108, 112, 116, 120) sts. Work even as established until piece measures 221/2” from beg.
Beg Side Incs - Next Row (RS): K1, M1 st, rib to last st, M1 st, k1. Cont to inc 1 st (by M1 rib st inside selvage sts) each side of every alternate 2nd and 4th row, a total of 14 times - 132 (136, 140, 144, 148) sts. Work even until piece measures 28” from beg, end on WS.
Shape Armholes: Bind off 3 sts at beg of next 2 rows.
Next Dec Row (RS): K2, p2, k2, p2, sl 2 sts to cn and hold to front and parallel to LH needle, [k1 st tog from LH needle with 1 st from cn] twice, work to last 12 sts, sl 2 sts to cn and hold to back and parallel to LH needle, [k1 st tog from LH needle with 1 st from cn] twice, p2, k2, p2, k2 (4 sts dec’d). Work 1 row even. Rep dec row every other row 6 (6, 8, 8, 8) times more. Then rep dec row every 4th row 3 times - 86 (90, 86, 90, 94) sts. Work even until armhole measures 5 (5, 51/2, 51/2, 53/4)”.

BACK NECK DETAIL
On next RS row, sl first 18 sts to a holder for strap, change to smaller needles and work rib over next 50 (54, 50, 54, 58) sts as follows: P0 (0, 2, 0, 0), k0 (0, 2, 0, 0), [p2tog, k2] 12 (13, 11, 13, 14) times, p2tog (p2tog, p2, p2tog, p2tog), then sl remaining 18 sts to a holder for other strap. Working on 37 (40, 39, 40, 43) sts of back neck only, [k1 row, p1 row] twice. Bind off firmly knitwise. Return to 18 sts of one strap and with smaller needles, work in rib for 1” more. Leave sts on a holder for adjustment when finishing. Work other strap in same way.

FRONT
Work as for back, including all shaping, until piece measures 26” from beg. Mark center of row with a yarn marker.
Beg V-neck
Next Row (RS):
Continue to work incs at side seams, work to center 2 p sts, [p1 into back and front of next st] twice, for p4 at center, work to end. Next Row (WS): Work to center 4 sts, k4, work to end.
Divide for V-Neck
Next Row (RS):
Work to center 4 sts, p2tog, join another ball of yarn and p2tog, work to end. Continue to work both sides at once with separate balls of yarn, and inc at side seams, dec for V-neck every RS row by p3tog at each neck edge 15 (17, 15, 17, 18) times, then p2tog every RS row 2 (0, 2, 0, 0) times, k2tog every RS row once and AT SAME TIME, work armhole shaping as on back. After all decreasing, 10 sts remain each side for straps. Sl these sts to st holders to be worked later.
Front Center V-Inset
With smaller needles, cast on 4 sts.
Note: These 4 sts will fit into the center 2 sts of V-neck opening, with 1 k st each side being a selvage st.
Row 1 (WS): K1, p2, k1.
Row 2 (RS): K1, yo, k2, yo, k1.
Row 3: K1, p1 into back and front of yo (2-st inc), p2, p1 into back and front of yo, k1.
Row 4: K3, yo, k2, yo, k3.
Row 5: K1, p2, k1 into front and back of yo (2-st inc), p2, k1 into front and back of yo, p2, k1.
Continue to work yo incs in this way, adding into k2, p2 rib as established, until there are 24 sts.
Next Row (RS): Rib 10 sts, k2tog, join another ball of yarn and SKP, rib to end. Cont to work both sides (11 sts each) with separate balls of yarn until rib strip fits along V-neck opening to the 10 sts on holders on each side. Pin edge to center V-neck, stretching slightly, to ensure correct fit. Then sew in place and adjust length if necessary.
Join Straps at V-Inset
Next Row (RS):
Return to 10 sts of left shoulder and with smaller needles, work 8 sts, k2tog, then continue across sts of V-inset, SK2P, rib to end - 18 sts. Work in rib on these sts for 3 (3, 3, 3, 31/4)”. Sl sts to a holder. Work other side to correspond.

FINISHING
Block pieces to measurements. Sew side seams. Try on dress and baste straps in place. Adjust length of straps if necessary. Weave sts tog at shoulder seams (or sew in place).

TOP
With larger needles, cast on 152 (156, 160, 164, 168) sts. Work even in rib (see dress) until piece measures 3” from beg. Cont as for dress, beg at waist shaping, until piece measures 161/2” from beg. Then complete as for dress.
